Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau and Sacramento State officials will unveil the newly completed $1.4 million resurfacing of the main track and warm-up track at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 22 at Hornet Stadium.

The Mondo Super X 720 surface is now in place a month before the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held June 25-29 at Sacramento State. Media members are invited to come check it out for themselves.

Steve Hammond, CEO of the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau, and President Alexander Gonzalez, Sacramento State, will be on hand to celebrate the partnership that has brought major track and field competition back to the Sacramento region. Several members of Sacramento State’s student athletes will be testing the new surface on the main track, and the university’s director of track and field, Kathleen Raske, will be available to talk about what makes the new surface one of the best in the world.

The resurfacing of the warm-up and competition tracks – a prerequisite to holding the 2014 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships – began April 14 and was completed last week. In late June, Sacramento will play host to its sixth national championship meet. Sacramento previously held the U.S. championships in 1968, 1981, 1995, 2000 and 2004.
