13th Annual St. HOPE Elite Hoop Classic Just Around the Corner

Sacramento, CA – The 13th Annual St. HOPE Elite Hoop Classic will take place from December 18-23 on the Sacramento Charter High School campus. Sixteen high school basketball powerhouses from throughout California will battle it out for this year’s tournament championship.

The St. HOPE Elite Hoop Classic is a five-day event that includes thrilling basketball and the opportunity for players, coaches, and parents to participate in planned community service projects as well as listen to a great guest speaker series.

“It is an honor for Sacramento to host such a competitive high school basketball tournament that draws teams from across the state,” said Mike Sophia, Director of the Sacramento Sports Commission. “And, the St. HOPE Elite Hoop Classic provides another opportunity for the community to get together to celebrate sports in our thriving city.”

This year’s tournament will be played at the storied Dave Hotell Pavilion, located on the Sacramento Charter High School campus.

“If you love basketball, you won’t want to miss these exciting players,” said Coach Derek Swafford, tournament director. “’Shot Blocker’ Chimezie Metu (PF) – Lawndale High School, Lawndale, CA; ‘Above the Rim’ all-around player Marquese Chriss (PF) – Pleasant Grove High School, Elk Grove, CA; and the Dragons own ‘Dime Dropping’ Christian Terrell (SF) – Sacramento High, Sacramento, CA.”

About the Sacramento Sports Commission The Sacramento Sports Commission was created in the 1980s as a joint city-county advisory board to attract and develop major professional and amateur sporting events in the capital region. On Jan. 1, 2013, at the request of the Sacramento City Council and County Board of Supervisors, the Sacramento CVB took over the responsibilities of the Sacramento Sports Commission. This new Sacramento Sports Commission, a division of the SCVB, will be responsible for fostering economic development of the region by securing, promoting and sustaining highly visible sporting events, tournaments and conventions.
