In addition to being the home field for the Sacramento
State Hornets football team, The Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on
the campus of California State University, Sacramento boasts one
of the finest track facilities in North America.
The state of the art Mondo track is a result of a
generous $1.1 million gift from developer Alex Spanos and features
eight lanes around the track with a nine lane straightaway. The
adjacent warm-up track, also a Mondo surface, has a two lane curve
with a six lane straightaway.
As well as being the site for the 2000 and 2004 U.S.
Olympic Trials, the track has also been graced with events such
as:
- Big Sky Conference Championships
- National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships
- NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
